Acrylic on canvas, interior study of the Hackney Empire theatre, by Richard Beer (1928-2017)
I love this beautiful, vibrant painting, everything about it is so lively, especially the lovely zingy colour palette. The composition is also wonderful with the elevated view from the circle and the lighting rig. Richard Beer is well known for his artworks depicting architectural detail and this really is a fabulous depiction of the interior of the Hackney Empire.
Late 20th century, some surface scuff marks otherwise in good condition.
Richard Beer studied at the Slade School, then in Paris. He designed for the theatre, taught printmaking, had many one man exhibitions and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. For more information please read my blog.
