Acrylic on canvas, interior study of the Assembly Rooms London NW5, by Richard Beer (1928-2017)
Another fabulous detailed interior study capturing the atmosphere of the quintessential British pub perfectly. The works of Richard Beer are so honest and full of life they don’t get hung up on accuracy and yet they are packed with exquisite detail. I love the outlined figure sat in the seat, like a ghost of all the past visitors.
Late 20th century, some surface scuff marks otherwise in excellent condition.
Richard Beer studied at the Slade School, then in Paris. He designed for the theatre, taught printmaking, had many one man exhibitions and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. For more information please read my blog.
