A 1940s, oil on canvas, garden landscape painting by Josephine Ghilchik (1890-1981)
A fabulous, English garden landscape painting, depicting the view from an upstairs window of 1940's rural village gardens, including a variety of plants, outbuildings, a figure reading in a deckchair and a chicken coop. All set beneath a clouded summer sky with distant countryside views and all executed in a lovely light, illustrative style.
Josephine Ghilchik studied art at the Municiple School of Art, Manchester. Then, Josephine Matley Duddle she met and married fellow student and artist David Ghilchik.
In good condition with an old and small patch repair and some discolouration to edges of canvas from a previous frame.
